Simple help for reading comprehension and writing reluctance

Submitted: May 26, 2005

My son has difficulty writing, and reading comprehension had been a problem until I stumbled upon this trick. Our program administrator was so impressed that he told the learning assistance teacher who was thrilled to have a "new" technique to use. I gave my son several different coloured highlighters and had him make each sentence a different colour. It helped because he could see each sentence seperately instead of one big jumble.

Something that we stumbled on is retelling a story. He wrote two and a half pages in one sitting without complaint. When I asked him about it, he told me that it was his favourite writing assignment because he didn't have to think about what to write.

Good wishes for you all!
